You travel to Andalusia primarily for the great local food and the certain sunny days every day. The cities here boast amazing cultural heritage, including several UNESCO sites. You might be interested in places like Puente Nuevo in Ronda, Alcazar in Seville, or Alhambra in Granada.
Another big draw for your vacation here could be the vibrant nightlife in bars, a wide range of museums and galleries, and plenty of water and theme parks. Some of the most beautiful beaches include Playa Bolonia near Cádiz, Playa del Cañuelo near Nerja, and Playa de los Muertos near Almería. If you want to explore the surrounding area, you cannot miss the remote Alpujarras and their off-the-beaten-path mountain views.
It’s also worth mentioning walks through the streets of classic white villages like Frigiliana and Mijas Pueblo. Last but not least, you can complement your trip with a visit to the cave village of Setenil de las Bodegas.
Mojacar is one of the most charming locations on the Costa Calida coastline. The historic hilltop village will transport you back several centuries. There are plenty of sandy beaches here, inviting you to relax and swim. Mojacar is located right on the Mediterranean Sea between the towns of Garrucha to the north and Carboneras to the south.
“Also worth a visit is the hilltop village, which unmistakably reflects its Arab origin. Here awaits the Church of Our Lady, built in 1560, likely on the site of a former mosque. It resembles a fortress and served as such in those times. In front of it stands La Mojaquera (The Mojacar Woman) made of white marble, dressed in the local traditional costume. You will also encounter various figures of the Indalo man throughout the area. In ancient times (as confirmed by cave paintings), it adorned local dwellings and served as protection against curses or lightning. Today, it is a symbol of Mojacar. It brings luck and wealth to anyone who wears it and represents abundance and peace.
The extensive eastern coast of Andalusia surprises many tourists with its diversity and beauty, largely distancing itself from the traditional image of the Spanish coastline. Most remarkable is the 6 km long beach that stretches into the distance from the traditional fishing port of Garrucha, with its bustling harbor and renowned seafood restaurants.
The most traditional beaches include Mojacar, Garrucha, Puerto Rey, or Villaricos, which even in the peak season are rarely overcrowded. Here, you can easily find spots for diving, snorkeling, and sailing, or even have access to your own private cove during the summer months.
Playa de los Muertos is a one-kilometer-long and several tens of meters wide sandy beach located in the area of Almeria. It is one of the most charming beaches in this area. You can reach the beach in about 15 minutes via a narrow footpath leading from the adjacent road. There are no restaurants or other refreshment options near the beach, so be sure to bring an adequate supply of fluids with you.
The beaches in Vera have a gradual entry into the sea, which is why they are popular with families with young children and less experienced swimmers. Not far from the coast is the unique natural reserve – Laguna de Puerto Rey. The proximity of the mountains makes Vera an ideal center for sports enthusiasts as well, who can embark on full-day hikes into the hills and enjoy the views of the surroundings.
This natural park is characterized by its wild Mediterranean coastline, deserted, arid landscape, and numerous salt lagoons. For lovers of unforgettable nature walks, it is almost an ideal place. This is a volcanic region covering a total area of 26,000 hectares. Inland, you will find the Sierra de Gata mountain range with its highest peak, Pico de Fraile (451 meters). The park is one of the driest places in Europe. In the surrounding area, you can visit fishing villages, bays with beautiful beaches, and cliffs.
Cartagena will enchant you, not only with its historical atmosphere. There is no shortage of restaurants with delicious food, a rich nightlife, or places to shop. Among the places to visit are certainly the Roman Theater, the Castillo de la Concepción castle, the National Center for Maritime Archaeology, the Military Museum, beautiful viewpoints, and beaches.
The place is designed in traditional Moroccan style, sitting amidst the grandeur of its surroundings.
The large terrace, framed by arches, serves as a grand entrance, providing all the space needed for special occasions and large events. Riad, or as it’s more commonly known, “Fatima,” is very popular among local Spaniards and vacationing Spaniards from Madrid in this area.
The modern interior creates a comfortable environment where you can enjoy food prepared to the highest standards. The menu is diverse with a Moroccan twist that evokes all the flavors of the African continent just 130 km away. Tapas are served both at lunchtime and as appetizers, which we recommend trying. Fatima’s, open daily for lunch and dinner, is a real delight that you shouldn’t miss when visiting this amazing corner of Almería.
